Attic airflow

Roof Ventilation & Attic Airflow in the Carolinas

Roof ventilation lets hot, moist air escape your attic and draws cooler, drier air in, which protects your roof from heat and moisture damage, helps prevent mold and rot, and can lower your cooling costs. BCI evaluates your attic airflow and installs balanced intake and exhaust ventilation as part of a healthy roof system. Your Roof, Our Responsibility.

Why it matters

Why ventilation matters in the Carolina climate

Our long, hot, humid summers are hard on attics. Without good airflow, an attic traps heat and moisture, and that causes real problems:

Shorter roof life.

Trapped heat bakes your shingles and decking from below, aging the roof faster.

Moisture damage.

Humid air with nowhere to go leads to condensation, mold, mildew, and rotting decking.

Higher energy bills.

A superheated attic makes your air conditioning work harder.

Ice and moisture issues.

Even in our milder winters, poor ventilation can cause moisture problems.

Good ventilation solves all of that quietly, in the background, for the life of your roof.

Effective ventilation is about balance: intake vents low on the roof (usually at the soffits) let cool air in, and exhaust vents high on the roof (at or near the ridge) let hot air out. When intake and exhaust are balanced, air moves continuously through the attic on its own. We assess what your roof has, identify what is missing, and install the right combination:

New roofs

Ventilation and your new roof

The best time to get ventilation right is when you install or replace your roof. We build proper airflow into every roof system we install, so your new roof reaches its full lifespan and your home stays more comfortable.

Frequently asked questions

It lets heat and moisture escape your attic, which protects your roof from premature aging, prevents mold and rot, and can lower your cooling costs. It is essential for a healthy, long-lasting roof.

A very hot attic, high summer cooling bills, moisture or mildew in the attic, and shingles that are aging faster than they should can all point to inadequate ventilation.

Yes. We can assess your current airflow and add intake or exhaust ventilation to bring it into balance, even without a full roof replacement.

By reducing the heat trapped in your attic, good ventilation eases the load on your air conditioning, which can help lower cooling costs during our long Carolina summers.

Mark and his staff at BCI roofing was very easy to work with. From the day I contacted them to the final day of installation they were right on point with everything. Everyone was so nice and personnel. Anytime I contacted Mark if he did not answer, left a message. He got right back to me within a reasonable amount of time. He answered all of my questions and did everything I ask on the roof. BCI took down a chimney for me and installed Black Onyx Shingles. If you need a roof I would definitely recommend Mark Bailey and BCI Roofing.

Wanted to say a big thank you to BCI METAL ROOFING. Called atleast 5 other commercial roofing company’s for an inspection of our commercial building (Biophil Natural Fibers)so we could renew our insurance policy, and not one company showed up. I know it wasn’t a big payday “cost wise “since it was just an inspection , but it was very urgent as to get our policy renewed. Thankfully Mark was gracious enough to come and inspect our 100,000 sq ft roof and gave a report that I was able to submit to our policy holder. Thank you. For taking the time even though a small project but a big help in our matter!!!!

BCI roofing was recommended to me for my roofing needs so I called them and got a quick response. They completed my house in two days and met a deadline that I had with my insurance company, as they had promised.

BCI roofing installed an exceptional roof on my home. My job was unique and not easy. We are building a replica of the original 1900s home that was on our farm. We wanted a galvanized standing seam roof. Standing seam for the performance, galvanized for the old look. Marks crew not only did an amazing install job, but they were also a pleasure to be around and work around. Mark, the owner, is an honest business man in the world of wheelers and dealers. Mark and I had a miscommunication that we recognized half way into the project and Mark stood by his word. That doesn't happen often in the building world anymore and I will be calling BCI for all my roofing needs from now on.

BCI was great to work with. Had gutters installed on my house. Job was scheduled in a very timely manner. Crew showed up on time and went over job with me before work was started. After completion, made sure I was happy before they left. I would not hesitate in using BCI again
